Books on Your Bucket List-August 17, 2022

Today my son said he wants to read Dante’s Inferno for his 7th grade independent reading book. I have only read excerpts of this book, but never the whole thing. It’s definitely a bucket list book, but one I don’t know if I’ll ever get to..I don’t know, it feels like I need to go to Italy or give myself some other epic vacation in order to read it.

For today’s prompt, write about a book that you’ve always wanted to read. What has stopped you from reading it? Or how do you imagine your time reading this book?

Teeth Dreams-August 14, 2022

Well, it finally happened to me last night. I had my first teeth falling out dream. Specifically, the molars in the back of my mouth all fell out, so no one knew I was missing teeth because you couldn’t see it. I’m sure there is some symbolism there, but it was definitely a very disturbing dream.

For today’s prompt, write about a dream you’ve had that you think has some deeper meaning or symbolism. What do you think it means?

Crazy Night Noises-August 13, 2022

Last night a horrible sound woke me up. It sounded like a baby screaming, but the more I listened, the more I realized it was a cat. The noise was agonizing to listen to. However, I was the only one who woke up to it. After I told my partner about it, he said it was cats…um, having a little fun. It definitely didn’t sound like what I would have expected! Hope all those cats are okay!

For today’s prompt, write about a crazy noise or sound you’ve heard before.

Maybe not so bad after all-August 10, 2022

Tomorrow we are giving the students a writing prompt about something bad in their life that turned out good. I started thinking about this prompt so that I can share an example with them tomorrow. I think I will talk about when I found out my son was deaf. I was devastated because my mom is also deaf and I see how difficult her life has been. I didn’t want that for him. However, things have changed so much in the last couple of decades and the technology available for deaf people has made connectedness so much easier. Things are not at all what I expected for my son, and he is able to do almost anything that hearing kids can do. So much different than my mom’s experience or what I expected. Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know and there can be many more resources and solutions that you ever thought possible.

Your turn: write about something that you initially thought was bad but that turned out to be good in the end.

Feeling Nervous-August 9, 2022

Tomorrow is my first day of school for the new school year. I’m feeling nervous as always. I guess this feeling never goes away even when you’re an experienced teacher. Probably won’t sleep at all tonight, but going to try!

Write about something upcoming that you’re nervous about, or something that makes you nervous in general.
